Katherine Simon is an MFA Scenic Design student, a freelance designer, and an educator based in Columbus, OH. Her areas of focus are scenic design, properties design, scenic painting, theatre history, and film history.
Katherine fell in love with theatre as a small child when her parents took her to see Cathy Rigby in Peter Pan. Since then, theatre has remained a constant in her life. She has been everything from an usher to an actor to an administrator to, now, a designer. Though the path has been winding, the journey to scenic design has felt inevitable, brought about by Katherine's passion for immersive worlds that transform participants and aid escape from the everyday.
As an educator, Katherine has worked in the scenic studio, as well as extensively in the classroom. She has taught both hands on and research based classes and is skilled at both. In all cases, she believes in teaching transferable skills that will enrich her students' lives beyond the time in her classroom.
In addition to her current work on her MFA, Katherine has a BA from Vassar College in both Drama and Film and a Masters Degree in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has worked as an administrator at the Waukesha Civic Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and Shattered Globe Theatre.
